The short version
Normal audio-library delivery comes first. UGC monetization is optional.
If you use DistroKid, select TikTok and Instagram/Facebook in the Services section of the upload form. That gets eligible music into the platforms' official audio libraries. You do not need DistroKid's Social Media Pack simply to make the song searchable in those libraries.
1. Finish the release before social-platform delivery
Use the same final master, artist name, title, songwriter information and artwork that you are sending to the major streaming services. Correct metadata matters because your social-platform audio should represent the same release listeners later find on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube Music.
2. Select TikTok during the distributor upload
DistroKid currently lets artists opt into TikTok and other ByteDance stores from the Services section of the upload form. If the release is already in DistroKid, you can open the release page, choose Add to more stores, select TikTok and submit the additional delivery.
DistroKid says releases should generally become searchable in TikTok within 1–3 weeks after submission. Because processing can vary, do not wait until the final day if TikTok availability matters to your campaign.
3. Select Instagram & Facebook as a music service
For Meta's music catalog, select Instagram & Facebook in DistroKid's Services section. This is what places an eligible release into the searchable audio library used in Instagram and Facebook content. If a track was previously uploaded without Meta delivery, the same Add to more stores workflow can be used later.
DistroKid currently does not charge an additional distribution fee simply for adding music to the Instagram/Facebook audio library.
4. Understand what the official audio library does
Library distribution means a creator can search for your song inside the platform and deliberately attach the official audio to a Reel, Story or TikTok. That is different from somebody uploading a video that already contains your song in its recorded audio.
This distinction matters because music-library usage and automated identification of user-generated content are handled differently for monetization.
5. TikTok library monetization does not require Social Media Pack
According to DistroKid, you can deliver music to TikTok's ByteDance audio library without buying the Social Media Pack. When official music is used through that library, DistroKid says 100% of the revenue it receives for those ByteDance audio-library uses is passed to the artist and reported in the DistroKid Bank tab.
Social Media Pack becomes relevant when you want DistroKid's identification system to detect music that appears inside user-uploaded audio rather than being selected from TikTok's official music library. DistroKid currently states that it pays the artist 80% of that identified UGC revenue.
6. Instagram/Facebook library distribution is separate from UGC identification
Selecting Instagram & Facebook during distribution is enough to put an eligible song into Meta's audio library. DistroKid says Meta sends earnings for uses of music through that library.
If you also want Meta's Rights Manager to identify eligible posts that contain your music natively, DistroKid's Social Media Pack is the separate optional product used for that purpose. DistroKid says earnings generated through that identification system are paid to the artist minus its 20% share.
7. Check eligibility before paying for extra social monetization
Rights eligibility is especially important for social-platform identification systems. DistroKid's current Facebook/Instagram rules require sufficiently distinct, rights-controlled audio and list several types of shared or non-exclusive material that may not qualify.
This is one reason artists who use non-exclusive beats, shared sample packs or heavily recycled audio should verify the rights and platform rules before opting into automated UGC identification. Standard distribution and content-identification systems have different risk profiles.
8. Use the official TikTok sound instead of re-uploading the same audio manually
DistroKid recommends adding your released song to a TikTok video through TikTok's Sound Library rather than uploading the release as a separate original sound. Its help center warns that using the track as an original sound instead of the delivered library version can result in the video being muted.
DistroKid also notes that TikTok Business accounts may not have access to the same music and sound clips available to personal accounts. If your own track seems unavailable inside TikTok, account type is one of the first things to check.
9. Do not treat social platforms as an audio-only streaming replacement
TikTok, Instagram and Facebook are designed around social content, not static full-song listening. A better release strategy is to create platform-native visual content: hooks, performance clips, lyric moments, behind-the-scenes footage, short stories around the song and multiple distinct edits that lead people toward the full release.
10. Build the release campaign around one official song identity
Once the song is live across the social libraries, use the same official artist name, cover image, smart link and core messaging across platforms. Your short-form content should create recognition rather than making every post look like a different campaign.
Recommended workflow
Official TikTok audio: select TikTok / ByteDance during distributor delivery.
Official Instagram & Facebook audio: select Instagram & Facebook during distributor delivery.
Fan use in Reels, Stories and TikToks: normal audio-library distribution is the first step.
UGC identification: review Social Media Pack eligibility and rights before opting in.
Promotion: use official audio in short-form content and point viewers to a smart link or full release.
TikTok, Instagram & Facebook Music Distribution FAQ
How does an artist get an official song into social-app music libraries? A distributor can deliver the release to supported social platforms so creators can select the official audio from the app's music library.
Is library delivery the same as Content ID or UGC monetization? No. Making the track available in the official library and monetizing third-party uses are separate functions.
Do you need a social-media add-on just to appear in the music library? Not necessarily. Standard distribution can include library delivery, while UGC identification and monetization may be a separate optional service.
Why use the official song sound? It keeps listener activity connected to the correct release identity instead of fragmenting usage across re-uploaded audio copies.
